2016 is the most miles so far since starting this level of tracking in 2013.  It also saw international travel overtake domestic in a lot of measurements.  Lots of new airlines, all European, but also an exciting new airplane, the Avro RJ85.  These birds are getting hard to find anywhere, but they are very rare in the US.
